Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Education Director, to interview community members, to record and digitize the Southern Dakelh Language.



The individual in this position will work under the supervision of the Ulkatcho First Nation Education Director.  This individual will be responsible to handle all areas necessary to accurately digitize the Southern Dakelh Language and make it available to the public. 



This position is paid on an hourly basis.  Working hours are flexible as there will be weekend hours required at times. 



·         To document the language through recording fluent speakers, archiving, development of FirstVoices language sites, digitization of language materials etc.

·         To digitize audio cassettes, reel-to-reel tapes, VHS tapes and text documents into a digital format.

·         Creating access to those materials through the development of a website such as through FirstVoices

·         Development of projects such as language learning apps and games


Position Requirements

·         Passionate about supporting the revitalization of First Nation Languages

·         Know how to read and write the Southern Dakelh Language

·         Knowledge of converting materials to a digitization format

·         Good communication skills

·         Good verbal and written communication skills

·         Knowledge of the Ulkatcho traditional territory and culture

·         Grade 12 Graduation

·         Personable and gets along well with people

·         Good problem solving skills

·         Able to observe and record daily progress

·         Be able to work in a flexible work environment

·         Able to stay on target with the project requirements



·         Experience with interviewing elders

·         First Nations Studies

·         Linguistic Studies
