Chimney Sweep

A chimney sweep is a professional who inspects and cleans chimneys to prevent chimney fires. They use specialized tools and knowledge to safely remove debris and creosote buildup, while also checking to ensure the chimney is in good condition.
Role Purpose: The purpose of a Chimney Sweep job role is to clean and maintain chimneys and flues in residential and commercial buildings. This includes inspecting, cleaning, and repairing chimneys and flues, as well as removing soot, debris, and nests from chimneys. In addition, Chimney Sweeps may be responsible for installing new chimney caps, dampers, and liners, as well as providing advice on the best practices for chimney maintenance.

Chimney Sweep Summary

A Chimney Sweep is responsible for cleaning and maintaining chimneys and other flues in residential and commercial properties. Duties include inspecting and assessing chimney systems, sweeping, and removing soot and other build-up, and installing or repairing chimney liners, caps, dampers, and other related components. Other tasks may include installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, maintaining chimney safety records, and providing advice on chimney maintenance and safety. To perform this job successfully, a Chimney Sweep must have knowledge of proper safety procedures, excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work in tight spaces, and experience with a variety of tools and materials.

Chimney Sweep Duties
